How They Croaked

by Georgia Bragg
Lexile:  960

Ever wonder how some of the world's most famous people died?  Well look no further than this book to get your questions answered.  But be forewarned - this book is not for the faint of heart.  If you don't want to read about messy, disgusting, and alarming medical care, then this is not the book for you.  Get ready to learn some of the grossest facts in history!

  1. Mrs. Malecha,
I am also a 6th grade reading teacher who teaches in a departmentalized setting (3 sections of 6th grade reading; 50 min classes). My students love having me read aloud, but with limited time, I find it hard to read aloud. Do you have read aloud time during your classes? What do you read aloud? We read Wonder by RJ Palacio this year and my students are begging for another read aloud. Any suggestions?

    1. Read alouds are one of my favorite things to do with classes! Our whole 6th grade reads Crash by Jerry Spinelli and Fire From the Rock by Sharon Draper. Another new suggestion I have is Bystander by James Preller. I haven't used it as a read aloud, but as I was reading it I was thinking it would be a good one as it deals with bullying. Blackwater by Eve Bunting and Red Kayak by Priscilla Cummings have also been favorites. Happy Reading!
