Maya lives like a captive with her controlling grandmother. Her parents have died and her grandmother wants Maya to forget they ever existed. Maya is lonely living with just grandmother and a series of housekeepers who never seem to be able to meet her grandmother's exacting standards. But then one day, her grandmother has a stroke and Maya's life changes completely.
