Melody has always loved words and has remembered every word that she's ever heard. But at age 11, she has yet to speak on her own. Melody has a severe form of cerebral palsy which makes her feel as if she is stuck in her own head. With the help of her parents, a family friend and finally a good teacher, they are able to make the school realize Melody's true potential. Melody gets a Medi-Talker and is finally able to communicate with the world. Despite the fact that people are beginning to recognize her intelligence, Melody still feels left out and wants desperately to fit in.
