It's 1935 and Turtle's mother has just landed a new housekeeping job. The problem is that children are not welcome in the home. Turtle's mom decides to send her to live with her sister in Key West, Florida. However, Turtle arrives before the letter explaining that she's coming does, so Turtle gets off to a rocky start with her aunt and 3 boy cousins. Gradually they accept her and Turtle finds that life in Key West is not nearly as dull as she thought it might be.
